A fine weekend! Went to Comic Con, Comicon, ComiCon, whatever it's called, yesterday with Hannah and Ella. Three generations of us at the Glasgow nerd convention. Amazing costumes, a great bunch of people, and a brilliant day out. We left on the 7.30 train out of Edinburgh, early doors for our family I can tell you, but Ella loves travelling by train so it was smiles all round despite the early start. We shared a taxi from Glasgow Queen Street to the SECC with a Harley Quinn fan and arrived in plenty of time to join a huge queue of 1000s of comic/movie/TV fans all dressed up for a day of nerdy adventure. Let's face it, it's safety in numbers for a lot of these kids. Probably bullied and ridiculed in their various schools and neighbourhoods, for one weekend in September these intelligent, creative, well-mannered and uncertain teenaged Scots come out of their shells and crawl out from their disparate stones to come together in a celebration of their subculture. It's a wonderful sight to behold: tens of thousands of people in the most inventive and artistic costumes all convene and have a party. Not a hint of aggression in the air, it's a super-hero love-in!
